Art and Ale 2014 has been a success!

With perfect weather, beautiful works of art from talented artists, Timothy Seaman’s intriguing music as soundtrack for the day, and a steady supply of delicious food and Alewerks award winning brews; the stage was set for something for all visitors to enjoy.

Our artists, the reason to celebrate our festival, filled our clubhouse and grounds with their latest work.

From paintings to pottery, quilts to jewelry and sculpture, we enjoyed the color, texture, form and feeling which art brings to our lives.

We have a strong community of artists in Williamsburg.  And many active in our Williamsburg arts community are also our neighbors, or our former neighbors, here in Kingspoint.  We are happy to have the opportunity to to meet and visit with them, and to view and purchase their current works, right here in our own Kingspoint Clubhouse.

Jean Hess has strong ties to our Kingspoint neighborhood.

We also have a strong community of volunteers.  We appreciate the support of so many willing neighbors who helped make this event possible.

“Life is full of small segments that often go unnoticed, but have an impact on our emotions if we stop to see it.

Whether it is a breathtaking landscape, a child’s face or a sun struck prism, these are things that make my day!

As an artist I strive to bring those moments to paper with watercolor to enjoy again and again. “

Largely self taught, I began my adventure with watercolors in 1997 taking classes with Ann Murphy Armstrong.   After several workshops with numerous nationally known watercolor instructors such as Judy Betts, Gerald Brommer, Steve Rodgers, Betsy Dillard Stroud and Don Andrews, I joined the Barclay Sheaks Art Group.   Now known as the Williamsburg Studio Painters, I find myself working with Ann Armstrong, the group’s leader, once again.

Architectural Watercolor Paintings

David Lewis, a native of Richmond, VA., began painting with seriousness in the sixth grade. His only formal art training was in junior and senior high school in Richmond.

Across the years, Dave has increasingly specialized in detailed watercolor paintings, usually commissioned, of homes, beach cottages, churches, schools and public buildings.  He is largely self-taught in doing architectural painting.

Thus far, he has issued 38 limited edition prints. He sells his prints primarily through a number of galleries and shops in coastal North Carolina and Virginia.

After serving for 53 years as a United Methodist minister, Dave retired for the second time in June, 2013, because of health problems.  In spite of Parkinson’s disease, Dave continues to paint and share his love of art with others.

Dave and his wife now reside near Richmond, Virginia, and look forward to exhibiting a selection of original watercolor paintings and signed and numbered prints at our Kingspoint Art and Ale on May 17.

Of special interest to the Kingspoint community are two original watercolor paintings of our new clubhouse.  The original paintings will be offered at silent auction during our Art and Ale.  One painting is the creek side of our clubhouse, as viewed from the dock.  The other painting is of the pool side clubhouse, as seen from the playground.

If there is sufficient interest, Dave plans to also offer limited edition, signed and numbered 11 X 14 prints of his painting of the clubhouse for $40 each. Ten dollars from the sale of each print and 20% of the sale of the originals will be donated to the Kingspoint Club, Inc.
